Beyond uncertainty: Rethinking energy security and regional resilience

The energy crisis triggered by the conflict in the Middle East is “bigger than all the biggest crises combined”, according to Fatih Birol, executive director of the IEA, as the conflict entered its third month.

Energy markets have responded sharply, with crude oil repeatedly above $100/bl and natural gas prices in Europe reaching multi-year highs.

The effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s key energy routes—has removed a significant share of global oil and LNG supply, creating widespread disruption across industries.

OPEC+ is also under pressure. The UAE’s exit from the group highlights long-standing differences over investment priorities and production flexibility, adding further uncertainty to an already tight market.

Against this backdrop, on 12 May 2026, an energy resilience webinar hosted by Resilience Nexus World Summit and WPC Energy, will examine how these shocks are affecting markets and operations, and what organisations can do to respond.

Participants will explore immediate risks—including price spikes, inflation, transport disruption and rising insurance costs—alongside broader implications for corporate strategy.

“From governance to risk, readiness to recovery, resilience becomes not just a response to disruption, but a competitive advantage,” says Cedrick Moriggi, chief resilience officer of Group Resilience, who will join the panel.

Speakers and moderators from WPC Energy, UNDRR, Octopus Energy, Marsh, Group Resilience and the Orkestra–Basque Institute of Competitiveness will assess both direct and indirect market impacts, offering practical insights on contingency planning and resilience measures.

The RWN virtual webinar on 12 May 2026 (13:00–14:00 GMT+1) provides a timely opportunity to understand how organisations can adapt, respond and lead in an increasingly uncertain environment.
