Ban in place until review of fracing is complete

Prime minister Francois Fillon has extended a moratorium on drilling shale deposits for oil and gas until a review of fracing is complete. The moratorium was due to expire next month.

Toreador Resources and US independent Hess are among companies exploring for shale oil in the Paris basin, which may hold up to 4bn recoverable barrels.
