Project of the Year

Antwerp Blending Plant, Kuwait Petroleum International

First built in 1891, the Antwerp Lubricant Blending Plant is one of the largest and most technically advanced production facilities in Europe. Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) has modernised the plant beyond recognition with a $100m investment in renovation. Now the complex boasts the widest range of finished lubricant products of any blending plant in Europe.

Although it has been fully operational since March 2015, the final section was only recently completeda vast new warehouse for storing additives.

Today, the state-of-the-art plant has a current capacity of 125m litres of lubricants, with scalable potential of 250m litres per year. The mega-blend vessel is also capable of producing up to 4,000 litres.

With this finalised new capacity, KPI is in a prime position to nurture and substantially grow its Antwerp Blending Plant business.

The facility is situated on the banks of the River Scheldt which allows excellent access to UK and mainland Europe markets.

The jetty can also hold ships of up to 5,000 tonnes. With 24 base oil and 42 additive tanks, the renovated blending plant is among Europe's leading facilities. KPI is ideally placed to enhance its position as one of the leading manufacturers and marketers in high-quality lubricants.
