Poland joins US-sponsored Shale Gas Initiative
 POLAND has signed up to the US Shale Gas Initiative, boosting the country's position as an emerging force in unconventional energy. The scheme aims to encourage collaboration from nations involved in shale-gas exploration and will mean Poland and the US work together in shale-gas research. It will use experience gained in the US to assess Poland's shale-gas potential and promote the environmentally sustainable development of shale gas resources. The total resource in Poland's shale formations is still unknown. But ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Poland's state-owned PGNiG are among developers already issued with licences to explore foe shale gas in the country. A host of other smaller firms have also begun drilling.
