Regional US energy secretary Steven Chu visited the region last month to discuss energy security and the importance of investing in a broad portfolio of energy technologies. He met Saudi Arabia oil minister Ali al-Naimi; UAE energy minister Mohammed al Hamli; and Abdullah al-Attiyah, Qatar's deputy prime minister and energy minister. Iran Italy's government will block new oil and gas investments by Italian companies in the country. "We are absolutely firm about blocking new investments in the oil and gas sector," Italian foreign minister Franco Frattini said during a television interview.
