Imperial sanctions Cold Lake expansion

Shaun Polczer, CALGARY: Canada’s largest in situ oil-sands project, at Cold Lake, Alberta, is about to grow bigger. Owner Imperial Oil has formally sanctioned a C$2 billion ($2 billion) expansion.

Cold Lake, which produced about 160,000 barrels a day (b/d) of bitumen last year, will see an additional 40,000 b/d when the latest Nabiye expansion is completed in 2014. Nabiye, an Indian word for otter, will be the fourth production centre on the site, adding 280 million barrels...
