Nigeria unions turn off taps in fuel subsidies row

Kwok W Wan, LONDON: Nigeria’s two major oil-workers unions plan to shut in the country’s oil and gas production from Sunday, as unrest over the government’s decision to abolish fuel subsidies entered its fourth day.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (Pengassan), which represents white-collar workers, said: “We are notifying the federal government … that Pengassan shall be forced to order the systematic shutting down of oil and gas production with effect...
