Anadarko and Eni hit Mozambique gas jackpot

Martin Quinlan, LONDON: Sharp upward revisions to gas reserves in fields discovered by Anadarko and Eni, operators of adjacent licences in the northern offshore, should secure Mozambique’s future as one of the world’s larger liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporters. With a total of only seven successful wells drilled in the two licences, the operators’ reserves estimates now extend to 1.5 trillion cubic metres (cm) – the same as Libya’s and a third of Algeria’s.

In late-November, Anadarko raised its recoverable reserves estimate for Area 1, where it has the Windjammer, Barquentine, Lagosta and Camarão discoveries, to the range 425 billion to 850 billion cm, out of gas-in-place reserves of 850 billion to 1.4 trillion cm. The previous month, Eni raised its gas-in-place estimate for Mamba...
